Dear Habitat Supporters,
I have had the privilege of serving as San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s Executive Director for nearly a year, and am pleased to report to you about some of the steps forward we have taken together. Under the leadership of our Board of Directors, we have become a more transparent organization, working for the betterment of our community on behalf of our partner families, donors, and volunteers.
We have worked very closely with County Supervisor Dianne Jacob’s Office and with corporate partners to alleviate concerns about donations made to Habitat during the 2007 Wildfires. Recently, Supervisor Jacob commented on her renewed faith and support of the important work of Habitat.
We have taken steps to ensure donor dollars that came to Habitat have been directed to support fire victims and fire safety programs. We transferred the bulk of donations to the American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties, which it will use to educate residents in wildfire-prone areas of San Diego County about fire safety and emergency preparedness. Emergency preparedness kits will also be purchased with these monies and distributed to County residents. Monies that were not transferred were returned to donors, at their request.
We have completed both our FY11 and FY12 audits, and have posted them to our website.
The Board of Directors, myself, and the hardworking Habitat staff is committed to the core mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities for people in need, and we thank you for your continued support.
Regards,

Lori Holt Pfeiler, Executive Director
