Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity program that encourages women to make a difference by building homes and communities. The program seeks to encourage women volunteers to further the home-building mission of Habitat for Humanity. Since the program's launch in 1998, Women Build volunteers have constructed more than 1,600 homes around the world, including two homes in San Diego County. This year, women from San Diego County will build a home in National City in partnership with a family in need.
The program does not exclude men from volunteer efforts, but includes women in the build process. Women Build offers a fun and positive environment for women to give back to the community. Women Build projects provide an opportunity for women to learn construction in a supportive environment, empowering them as they address the problem of substandard housing. Their leadership and service are changing the lives of Women Build volunteers and families. By planning projects where the majority of volunteers are women, Women Build involves more women in Habitat's construction efforts, thereby increasing the number of houses Habitat can build.
In 2010, women will contribute the time, talent and treasure to build a home in National City. Join us for a Women Build Day – spend your time with like-minded women, learn new skills and contribute toward the construction of a home for a local family in need. In order to build the home, we ask that each volunteer commit to build for one day and to raise at least $100 towards the cost of building a home.
Women Build participants must be 16 years of age to volunteer on work site.
All volunteers are asked to complete an Orientation at Lowe's prior to their build day.
